Kiawah Island Vacation Home

Whole House Renovation for Vacation Getaway

Swallowtail completed an extensive renovation of this vacation home on Kiawah Island.  Kiawah is a resort community with luxury amenities and this vacation home is the perfect place to relax when stopping in for a few days just outside of Charleston, SC.

This renovation remade this home.  We updated the flow, the layout, the finishes, and the color palette.  In the kitchen we added new custom cabinetry with a gray, weathered finish, along with top-of-the-line appliances, and quartz countertops.  Each of the bathrooms was renovated and the layout was updated to allow for flexible living as age-related mobility might be a future concern.   The exterior rear courtyard was also renovated and now our clients can enjoy a relaxing afternoon under the shade tree after playing a round of golf at one of Kiawah’s best courses.

For added organization when on vacation, we made sure to create a mudroom, as well as organization systems in the closets and a ‘dropzone’ near the entry way.  We also used natural woodtones throughout the home to unify the look and to create a casual, yet elegant feel for the home.   Wood was used for the bar height countertop in the kitchen, as the countertop in the bathrooms, and on slide barn doors used in strategic locations like the powder room and for closets.

When you are looking for a Kiawah Island Architect, whether it’s for a new build or a whole house renovation, it’s important that they know your goals for the home.  A second home will have different needs versus your primary home, eg. more guest space, more flex space, more or less storage area.  Understanding this is key to your many years of enjoyment in the home.  We have created a collection of renovation and building guides for Kiawah that are free–we invite you to take a look at.  When you are ready, we also offer a free, 10-minute Q&A session with Principal Architect and Owner of Swallowtail, Rachel Burton,
