New Construction Coastal Townhome with Industrial Chic Touches

Calm, relaxation, and space to unwind are the hallmarks of this new construction townhome in Wild Dunes.  The architects at Swallowtail were tasked with designing an elevated, compact, 4 bedroom townhouse with all the comforts one expects on vacation on a tight building site.  The owners wanted the home to reflect the sense of calm they feel from the surrounding sea, but to have touches of industrial whimsy.  We created this aesthetic by using a palette of blues, whites, and very soft sea foam greens, shiplap, wallpaper, blonde wood floors, and industrial light fixtures.  Some of the light fixtures include one made from plumbing pipe and another made using bare light bulbs hanging over a large block of reclaimed wood, which functions as the kitchen island fixture.  The various wallpapers that were used throughout the home provide texture and depth to the interior, as well as creating a flow through the space.

This home is elevated to relieve any flooding due to Hurricanes.  Rather than just have the lower level be the garage, a small workshop was incorporated.  Custom cabinets are suspended from the wall so that nothing touches the ground.  In addition, a large roll up door at the rear creates an outdoor recreation area with a view of the pond.  Up the stairs you’ll find the open plan kitchen, dining, and great room with a shiplap accent wall with mounted TV.  Shiplap on the ceiling ties these three spaces together.  Bright white cabinets play nicely off the deep navy blue center island, which is the same blue color used on all of the interior doors.  With seating for 4 at the island, six at the dining table, and an outdoor dining table just steps away from the kitchen on the screened porch, there is plenty of room for all their guests–there are two ensuite guest bedrooms, along with a kids bunkroom.  The master suite is on the third level and has a vaulted ceiling.  We used wallpaper on a feature wall to accentuate the vault and repeated the wallpaper in the master bath to unify the two spaces.
