Classic Coastal Kiawah Home

Bold Patterns, Elegant Finishes, Direct Indoor-Outdoor Flow is Essential Lowcountry Living in South Carolina

Tucked in amongst the tree canopy and backing up to a pond, this new construction home abuts the Osprey Point Golf Course on Kiawah Island.  Walking in the front door, you’re immediately attuned to the rich details.  A beautiful, wide-planked hickory floor, stained in a medium tone, flows throughout the home.  Natural light fills the space through abundant windows and a large, four-panel sliding french door that opens the living space to the back pool deck. The main floor living is one wide open area with the kitchen, dining room, and living room.  Vibrant wallpaper and a sophisticated color palette of blues, greens, yellows, and whites helps to define the spaces.

The kitchen design is purposefully minimal with the choice to exclude upper cabinets.  This allowed for the lower cabinets to be painted in a mossy green color without conflicting with the bold patterns of the wallpaper and soft goods.  The back focal wall of the kitchen is clad in bright white, nickel-gap wood boards to strike this necessary balance.  A white quartz slab with corner cut-outs is the backsplash behind the 60-inch range.  The one break in the white walls is the painted hood vent, which matches the lower cabinets.  On the adjacent kitchen wall is a built-in beverage center with wine cooler, ice maker, and prep sink.  Near the storage pantry, you will also note that this is where the refrigerator is, is an L-shaped arrangement of cabinets that functions like a butler’s pantry.  By placing the refrigerator off to the side, this also maintains the minimalism of the space.

Wallpaper is a design feature of this home, along with unique light fixtures.  Down the hall with soft pink wallpaper in a large format floral pattern, you will find a spacious main floor suite with sliding doors that give you access to the back deck.  The bedroom walls share the same pink undertone as the hallway wallpaper, but with a bold, stylized stripe pattern.   The bathroom is classic white marble for the large shower and floor juxtaposed against a modern-style Japanese themed wallpaper of rolling hills and flowers in an unexpected color theme of green, red, pink, white, and black.  The custom-built, double vanity is topped with the same white quartz as the kitchen.  In the corner is a free standing tub.

The inside-out connectivity and flow of the space is wonderful for entertaining.  A feature of the kitchen space is the accordion folding window behind the kitchen sink that directly opens the space to the back deck for ease of access from the kitchen to the lounge space.  Through the sliding door wall of windows in the living room, is the covered dining space and outdoor kitchen with gourmet grill and exhaust hood, prep sink, and refrigerator.  Whether you are taking a dip in the cocktail pool or are putting your feet up when relaxing in the lounge space, you will enjoying all the splendor of the vistas of island living around you.
