An Architecturally Striking and Contemporary Home on Sullvian’s Island
Swallowtail Architecture’s modern-style Gallery House has been featured in The Post and Courier. The article discusses the homes unique character among the homes on Sullivan’s Island.
“With the Atlantic Ocean, the Charleston Harbor, and the Intracoastal Waterway bordering the tony town that is connected by a bridge to the Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island is quiet, refined… . Classic Charleston-style homes line small streets draped with oaks and palms. Then you [stop to] pause to look at what can be aptly described as a modern masterpiece –both inside and out.”

This custom designed home was created to showcase two things, 1) the amazing views of both the intracoastal and the ocean and 2) the owner’s love of art and their personal collection. Deciding to tear down an existing home and start from the ground up to create a home specifically designed for you is a labor of love. At Swallowtail Architecture, we have a particular fondness for this home because of the trust the owners put in us to create their dream home. As we discussed in the Portfolio for this home, the owners came to Swallowtail after first working with a firm who was unable to create for them what they wanted.
The newspaper choose to feature this home not only because of it’s uniqueness in being a modern-style coastal home tucked in amongst more traditional homes on Sullivan’s, but also because of the way Swallowtail was able to blend the home into the community.
