Wild Dunes, Ocean and Inlet Views, and Marshes

All the main living spaces are at the back of this well-appointed home so that from the interior comforts, the homeowners enjoy watching the changing landscape of the marsh and the wildlife around them.  While prepping meals in the kitchen, one can get distracted by the views across the adjacent dining area and out the wall of windows or across the living room and through the bank of three french doors to the back deck.  The soft white of the show kitchen cabinetry, the back wall of marble subway tile, the lightly veined quartz countertop, and a little glamour with a white iridescent tile behind the range in a herringbone pattern are a neutral backdrop for the view.  Without upper cabinets to hinder the view, the two large windows that flank the range create a living painting of the beautiful scenery. Even the minimal detail of the light grid for all of the windows and exterior doors was a purposeful pattern as to not obstruct the views.

The quartz from the counters is used as the fireplace surround in the living room and the iridescent tile is used as the backsplash for the bar area that leads to the working prep kitchen.  Helping to define the spaces and to create visual separation within the open plan main floor, we used different ceiling treatments.  A coffered ceiling in the living room is inset with white-washed wood cladding.  Hand-hewn, pecky wood Cypress beams  in a natural tone that were brought in from Lousiana anchor the show kitchen.  A shallow beam ceiling in a star pattern tops the dining space.

There’s a very comfortable flow between the spaces to the outside.  Open the french doors from the living room to the elevated pool deck.   The outdoor kitchen and lounge area is directly adjacent and is shaded making it the perfect casual spot for a meal or evening of relaxing.  Ascend an exterior spiral staircase to the deck above the outdoor kitchen for an open-air conversation while feeling part of the natural ecosystem.  Or, take in a hawks-eye view accessible from an interior staircase on the 3rd floor to the deck that’s four stories above the ground.   Back on the ground is a large firepit for nightime entertaining and a covered lounge and dining area.
