Dorchester Heritage Center

Museuem, Archives, and Event Space for Dorchester County, SC

Envisioned as a multi-generational gathering space, the new Dorchester County Heritage Center will be situated on a large parcel of land only 10 minutes north of Summerville, SC.  The Center will be comprised of a 20,000 sq. ft. building with over 6,500 sq. ft. of dedicated exhibition space.   The Dorchester County Library will be a companion building also located on the sprawling rural setting.  The land for the Center was specifically selected to reflect the overall character of Dorchester County–rurally-sited with natural features like wetlands and marshes. The Center grounds also includes a small, family cemetery.

The Heritage Center has three main components: a museum, the county archives, and an event space. The museum will showcase artifacts that celebrate Dorchester’s rural character in support of their mission, “Preserving Today for Tomorrow.”  Exhibits and artifacts will highlight the history of the County. The archives will allow residents and scholars to research the counties deep roots in the Greater Charleston area, as well as conduct genealogical research. And the event space will be available to host many kinds of events including cocktail parties, weddings, and educational activities.

The Heritage Center is currently fundraising for the new building. If you are interested in learning more, please visit their website: https://www.dhc-sc.com/
