Contemporary Style Beach House
Transforming a Traditional Home into A Modern-Style Beach Home
Our goal was to reinterpret this 1970’s home to accommodate modern family life with adult children and integrate the indoor and outdoor spaces. We transformed the home and the families life by adding magnificent dining and social spaces overlooking the outdoor courtyard and pool, as well as completely updating the style of the interior of the home from traditional to a contemporary style beach house. The family is now ready for entertaining and hosting friends, family, and future grandchildren.
The upper floor was converted to guest accommodations. The lower level includes entertainment areas that wrap around the pool, a home office, and luxurious master suite. The use of views across rooms and to the pool, as well as increased access to all of the porches increases the overall sense of space while allowing the actual room sizes to remain relatively modest. For structural reason and to be cost efficient, our renovations stayed within the existing footprint and none of the additions increased the sheer load on the existing structure. A key portion of the work included replacement of all windows, adding insulation, improving the building envelope and installing a new HVAC and lightening system to improve energy efficiency.
This renovation is a good example of finding the sweet spot to balance the maintenance requirements, the budget, all while meeting the homeowners goals to create an elegantly functional, island home.
